A Community Project In The Making

I've always liked kind, old people. =)

So, I thought to myself one night -

"1 in 11 people in Singapore are diabetics. Imagine all those poor old folks who do not really know how to take care of their condition! I should help in some way!".

So, my ambition and one year plan from now (when I'm better after my bypass), is to direct and plan an operation to engage Nurse Educators to hold talks and educating lessons in the many RCs (Resident Committees) all around Singapore. It may be a monthly or a bi-monthly event or events held simultaneously all across the island.

Yes, there are three Diabetes Education & Care centres provided by the Diabetic Society of Singapore but my aim is to reach closer to the neighborhoods and conduct these lessons and talks in Mandarin/Hokkien and English/Malay so that diabetics, young and old, get to find out more about their condition, and what to do to prevent the various debilitating and life-threatening complications like diabetic neuropathy, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, limb amputations, cardiovascular diseases and many more.

I realize that there are a lot of stuff that people who do not have access to information, do not know, like -

1) Important nutritional supplements and vitamins that diabetics need

2) Where to purchase cheaper equipment that is necessary to keep track of their diabetes

3) How to get financial assistance from the various government bodies and volunteer, non-profit organizations if you are in need

4) Basic lifestyle tips that ALL diabetics should know

So, if you think you can help in ANY way, please do not hesitate to email me at blackmamba762@gmail.com for further discussion.

If you think you want to contribute to this small, sincere community project of mine, you can send your donation by cheque. Email me at blackmamba762@gmail.com to find out more.

Details of the project will be put up here once support have been secured and more details confirmed.

Thanks! =)
